Sometimes life gets in the way of writing. It's hard not write, but a first…
In Jan. 2020, I decided it was time to learn my new (!) sewing machine. I hadn’t opened it’s box in 15 years. I took a lesson. March 14th, we entered the pandemic and shelter in place. A friend suggested I might consider making masks to donate with a volunteer group called #millvalleymasketeers. After all, I could now thread my machine and sew a straight line. Why not? It’s a such a small thing to make a mask.
Sewing masks during our now second SIP, or anytime, occupies my nights while watching way too much Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. For me, sewing is actually like running (something I love) – repetitive motion with goals to achieve. The #millvalleymasketeers have been sewing for almost 10 months and made nearly 12,000 masks. I’ve made over 1,500, so far.
Making masks has made a difference in my life. I’ve met kind, generous people during this difficult, stressful time, with the common goal of helping others in any small way they can.
