Excluding my regular critique group (except during COVID), I've probably had over 100 professional writing critiques. Some harsh, some dismissive, some encouraging, some insightful, some throwaways. I've made a substantial investment in my writing career and I've learned a solid professional critique can put you on an enlightened path.
SCBWI is a wonderful organization of talented volunteers. I am biased. I think our region has among the best. We have some terrific programs starting off the year for writers and illustrators to learn, hone their craft, and get inspired to keep on plugging (as we all know that there is not a lot of money in children’s lit unless you wrote Harry Potter.)
